What is eTIMS?
e-TIMS, or Electronic Tax Invoice Management System, is a software solution designed to streamline tax invoicing. Accessible through various devices like computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones, e-TIMS allows you to issue electronic invoices and transmit them directly to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
Who Needs eTIMS?
Virtually all Kenyan businesses are required to use e-TIMS, including:
- Companies, partnerships, and sole proprietorships
- Individuals with income tax obligations (Monthly Rental Income Tax, Turnover Tax, Annual Income Tax)
- Businesses in all sectors, formal and informal
- VAT-registered and non-VAT registered businesses (including those supplying VAT-exempt goods and services)
Upgrading from TIMS ETR Devices?
If you currently use a TIMS ETR device, you can continue using it for invoicing and transmitting invoices to KRA. However, if you experience technical difficulties, we recommend migrating to e-TIMS for uninterrupted service. You can easily retire/deactivate your ETR device through the iTax portal.
Compliance Deadlines:
- All VAT-registered businesses should already be using either TIMS or e-TIMS for electronic invoicing.
- Non-VAT registered businesses have until March 31st, 2024, to onboard e-TIMS. Once onboarded, you’ll need to capture all manual invoices and receipts issued from January 1st, 2024, on the e-TIMS platform.
